And now to peek at my right shin. Basically the tendons here got severed agaisnt the jagged rock face I hit. So the Chinese surgeon stapled the tendons back together then stapled up my leg like so. Some big nasty stitches there!
And spot the dirt and mould on the roof above me, this is the view from my Hainan hospital bed. Fortunately I was not able to snap photos of the rat under my bed.
I've got loads to write up about the actual tour and about the political drama of getting from the Chinese Hospital to the airport and on the plane! The last 5 days have been draining like no other 5 days of my life!
Quick outlook on the recovery is looking like the broken hip will heal fine on it's own with a few weeks rest and the tendons on my right leg need a similar recovery time.
Good luck with the recovery. The crash must have been nasty.
ReplyDeleteSheeesh Jono, the body-bit goes in the air, the wheels-bit go on the ground....not the other way round.
ReplyDeleteSpeedy recovery
oh no dude, that sucks!! speedy recovery
ReplyDeletefriggin ouch! and I thought mine was bad...heal quick dude.
ReplyDeleteJeez ... :( Best for a quick recovery and hope that the stitching job was top-notch; with any luck, the scarring will be kept to a minimum (did my chin a few months ago and was told at the time (and after) that it'd heal fine, which was right - what you get told will be a good indicator of what you can expect).
ReplyDeleteAll the best for a speedy recovery mate. Don't know what to say, must have been horrific. Keep the posts coming, we really enjoy them and hang in there.
ReplyDeleteAnything you need let us know.

Bloody hell...best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hopefully you've used up all your bad luck now!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! Yes I think I am fresh out of bad luck now!
ReplyDeleteJonno, you poor bugger. Your link was sent to me via a few other people. Seems like there's lots of guys wishing you well. Those are some nasty wounds, I can't imagine how your eye must be feeling...I was following your race on cyclingnews, Joel was doing well and then you crashed. The report said you were ok but guess that's Chinese reporting. Chin up, see you in the new year.
ReplyDeleteTom Leaper.
Jono,
ReplyDeleteI know that you'll use that determined nature of yours to bounce back in time for a Town Haul ride in the not too distant future. Mend up well,
mat m

Jono,
ReplyDeleteMan what an awful way to end a tour!! Hang in there man-all the best with the recovery, you'll be back super strong to smash us like you always do!
Tristan
I've had large lumps taken out of my face and I don't really see them any more, vitamin e oil overdise for months afterwards, I did. Both on the wounds and orally. It does take getting used to but as you is good looker it wont keep the Shelers away. After it happened to me I would not go out unless I had to but gradually I got over it and photos of me 4 months later dont even show any scars, what to me were huge at the time, Don't let it get to you and remember anyone who rejects you cos of it, you were better off findig out early, good luck in the racing if you so choose to continue
ReplyDeleteThanks for the oil info.
ReplyDeleteI have no choice but to continue, I have been consumed by cycling. There is no escape! Wouldn't have it any other way either
How well did this heal up? I bet it looks badass as hell.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a bit more obvious in real life than this photo, but it doesn't stand out as much as I thought it would
